Dumbbell to Barbell Conversion
Two dumbbells demand more stabilisation and a greater range of motion, so most lifters handle a lower total dumbbell load than their barbell bench. A widely used estimate is that your barbell bench 1RM is roughly 1.15× the combined weight of both dumbbells you can press for the same reps.
Questions
Dumbbell FAQ
Why is my barbell bench higher than my total dumbbells?
The barbell stabilises the load and shortens the range slightly, so you can usually press more total weight than with two independent dumbbells.
Should I enter one dumbbell or both?
Just one — for example 70 if you press a pair of 70s. The calculator handles the doubling for you.
