How AMRAP Estimation Works
An AMRAP set means lifting a fixed weight for as many clean reps as you can. Because the relationship between load and reps is predictable, we can reverse a one-rep-max formula to estimate the rep count: lighter loads relative to your 1RM yield more reps, heavier loads fewer.
AMRAP sets are the backbone of programs like 5/3/1, where the final set is taken to a rep target to gauge — and push — your progress.
Questions
AMRAP FAQ
Should I always go to true failure?
No. Leaving 1–2 reps in reserve is safer and still highly effective. Save true failure for occasional testing with a spotter.
Can I estimate my 1RM from an AMRAP set?
Yes — that's the reverse calculation. Enter the weight and reps into the 1RM calculator.
